PROCESS: The Initial Assessment of a client with upper extremity dysfunction in Occupational Therapy

First, a thorough interview is conducted to gather information about the client’s medical history, daily routines, and goals for therapy. Second, a comprehensive physical examination assesses range of motion, strength, sensation, and coordination. Third, the client is observed performing functional tasks to identify areas of difficulty. Then, a detailed analysis of the collected data determines the client’s specific needs. After this, an individualized treatment plan is developed. This plan addresses the client’s impairments, limitations, and participation restrictions. Finally, the therapist collaborates with the client to establish realistic and achievable goals for therapy.

PROCESS: The Assessment of a Hypothetical Client in Occupational Therapy

First, an occupational profile is created by gathering information about the client’s daily routines, challenges, and goals through interviews with his parents and teachers. Next, standardized assessments are administered to measure the client’s fine motor skills and sensory integration abilities. Afterward, an intervention plan is developed that includes purposeful activities like practicing buttoning on adaptive clothing and occupation-based tasks such as writing letters with guided support. Finally, the client’s progress is monitored regularly, and adjustments are made to the intervention plan to ensure alignment with his developmental needs and goals.
